Creative Writing Workshop with American Poet Laura Passin

We are thrilled to be able to announce an upcoming poetry workshop with American poet, instructor, and feminist at large, Dr. Laura Passin. The online workshop, which is organized in collaboration with the American Studies department of the University of Bamberg, will take place in the evenings of Sat. Jan. 29 and Sat. Feb. 12, 2022. There will be room for up to 5 participants from each of the two universities in the workshop.

Laura Passin earned a PhD in English from Northwestern University and an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of Oregon. She has written about literature and culture for major feminist blogs and her poetry has appearerd in a variety of publications, includingPrairie SchoonerAdrienne: A Poetry Journal of Queer WomenThe ToastRolling Stone, and Best New Poets 2013. She is the author of the chapbook All Sex and No Story (2019) and the poetry collection Borrowing Your Body (2021). Laura Passin has given lectures across the U.S. and in Germany, and taught literature classes at university and highschool level. She is passionate about teaching and looking forward to working with you!

Creative writers of all levels of experience who write or would like to try writing poetry in English are welcome to share their poems and be inspired by the poems of others in this two-part workshop. In order to apply, please prepare a short letter of motivation (0,5-1 page) and send it together with 1-2 original poems to american-studies@uni-koeln.de by December 17, 2021. The poems you submit can be works in progress, but please note that we can only consider applicants who can provide prove that they have materials to present in the workshop.
