Melbourne: Staging Down Under

During the ten-day stay in Melbourne, Australia (October 2014) participants had the opportunity to see and discuss new theatre productions at the Melbourne Festival. The unique insight into contemporary Australian theatre and culture also encompassed private tours through Melbourne’s Art Galleries and meetings with contemporary artists (John Young). Additionally students attended a one day lecture series on German-Australian Theater, organized in conjunction with the ANU College of Arts and Social Sciences. (Part of the World Stages Excursions 2013 + 2014 supported by QVM)

The London Stage

For more than a decade the focus of this yearly offered course has been on contemporary British theatre and culture. During a one week stay in London participants have the opportunity to see and discuss new theatre productions at the Globe, the National Theatre, the Royal Court and a variety of Fringe venues. Over the years we have also included a guided tour through the Theater and Performance Exhibition at the Victoria & Albert Museum as well as a practical and theoretical workshop at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art with theatre professionals and playwrights.

New York, New York

Focus of this six-day excursion in February 2014 was to explore New York’s theater and art scene – in theory and practice. We saw Broadway and Off-Broadway shows, including the award winning musical The Book of Mormon in its original cast and The Glass Menagerie starring Cherry Jones and Zachary Quinto. We also did a guided tour of the MOMA and followed the art concept of the city walk in a tour of the boroughs on foot. (Part of the World Stages Excursions 2013 + 2014 supported by QVM)
