Exchange Program

Study in Rochester, NY

As of November 2022, the team of Jun.-Prof. Dr. Judith Rauscher (American Literature and Culture) is coordinating the department's exchange program with the Department of Modern Languages and Cultures at the University of Rochester, NY (USA). For students of the University of Cologne, the program offers two scholarships/TA-assistantships each year.

During the one-year program (program duration August-May), stipend holders are expected to complete an M.A. in Comparative Literature at the University of Rochester while teaching German language courses for the department of Modern Languages and Cultures. Fluency in German (commonly having learned German as a native language), as well as a pronounced interest in American Literature and Culture as well as one other field of literary and/or cultural studies offered at the department of Modern Languages and Cultures, is required to apply for the program.

An info event about the exchange takes place via Zoom on November 2, 2022, at 6 pm. Please register via american-studies[at]; the Zoom link will be sent to you on the day of the event.

Applications, including a CV, a Transcript of Records, and a cover letter (1-2 pages), are due on November 30, 2022, at noon. Please send these documents in a PDF file labeled last name_name_Rochester2023 to Kathrin Lachenmaier (klachen1[at]
